2025 Year in Review: Advancing Digital Laboratories Together

2025; Year in Review

23

Dec 2025

As 2025 draws to a close, it is a natural moment to reflect on the year across our customer base and the wider life sciences laboratory community. It’s been inspiring to learn more about the longer-term benefits of the ever-increasing scientific advances, and specifically in drug discovery. However, there certainly have been shorter term market pressures this yearincluding funding challenges for biotechs as well as wider regulatory and tariffs uncertainty in the wider market. However, its encouraging to see labs worldwide have continued to push forward with innovation, digitalization, and new ways of working.

The State of Digital Maturity and AI Adoption in Labs

This year we’ve seen a clear theme at Cenevo: the ambition to accelerate digital transformation is strong, and although many labs are still early in their digital journey, there is opportunity to significantly reduce the time, human effort and therefore cost of scientific breakthroughs such as drug discovery and development.

Insights from our 2025 industry research highlighted both progress and persistent challenges. Only 15% of labs report being fully digitized, with advanced automation and analytics embedded into daily operations and 50% say they are still at the early stages of their digital journey.

For example, it is clear that many labs are struggling to fully identify the benefits and practically apply the latest AI tools and techniques to deliver real impact on ways of working. While the interest in AI continues to grow, fragmented systems, manual processes and silos of data in different systems and physical instruments still present challenges in labs today.

Throughout the year, AI was clearly identified as a high priority investment area, with customers keen to see practical, near-term applications that could help manage data complexity, accelerate decision-making, and reduce operational overhead. That feedback continues to shape how we prioritize AI capabilities across our roadmap.

Supporting Labs at Every Stage of the Journey

This year, our focus has been on helping labs make tangible progress, regardless of where they sit on the digital maturity curve, prioritizing more automation, enhanced data management and to identify practical applications of AI tools such as agents.

For organizations managing complex sample inventories, it is great to hear from our customers that Mosaic has continued to be recognized as a ‘gold standard’ for sample management.  This is not a position we take for granted and will continue to invest in Mosaic to maintain and extend that position. Customers rely on Mosaic to support inventory, fulfilment and order management across diverse modalities, from small molecules to biologics and other advanced therapies. Over the past year, we continued to build on this foundation, expanding beyond 150 off-the-shelf automations and integrations while enhancing orchestration, workflow scheduling, and user experience.

Labguru also saw continued strong adoption across a wide range of laboratory environments, including biopharma, CROs, academia, analytical labs and indeed other industries. It is a testament to the platform’s flexibility and usability that Labguru supports such a wide range of lab types and use cases. Its integrated ELN, inventory, registration and LIMS capabilities continue to support the design, management, and acceleration of experimental workflows.

In 2025, we took our first step into generative and agentic AI with the launch of Labguru Assistant, designed to reduce administrative burden and help scientists focus more time on discovery.

One Brand, Greater Scale, Stronger Delivery

A defining milestone of 2025 was the completion of the organizational integration of Mosaic and Labguru under Cenevo, derived from “central” and the “evolution of science”.

As a combined organization, we expanded our ability to invest in both innovation and customer success. Over the year, we strengthened our Customer Success and Support teams, scaled Professional Services, and successfully delivered more than 140 customer projects. We were pleased to welcome over 120 new customers, while more than 300 existing customers deepened their partnerships, reinforcing long-term confidence in our platforms and teams.

Learning Directly from Our Community

Customer feedback continues to shape our roadmap, and engagement remained a priority throughout the year. Product Advisory Council events held in the CambridgeBasel and San Francisco, brought Mosaic and Labguru customers together to share candid feedback on market needs and product direction. Consistent themes emerged across regions: a strong desire for more automation, better data acquisition, and improved data visualization. Interest in AI was particularly pronounced, reinforcing what we continue to see in both customer conversations and industry research.

Preparing for What Comes Next

Looking ahead, our industry research data suggests that adoption of next-generation lab technologies is accelerating. 46% of labs plan to implement next generation technologies like AI or advanced robotics within the next two years, with an additional 29% planning adoption within two to five years.

Throughout 2025, we saw continued momentum among Mosaic customers migrating to the cloud, driving significant reduced cost of technology ownership, as well as unlocking access to future data and AI capabilities.

As we move into 2026, we will increase our focus in the world of data and AI. Across both platforms, investments in a unified data layer, extending the secure third-party API access, and a growing set of targeted AI agents are designed to help laboratories turn expanding data volumes into actionable insight - safely, responsibly, and at scale.

Closing the Year

2025 was a year of integration, delivery, listening and innovation - laying strong foundations as well as positioning our customers for what comes next in terms of automation, connectivity, data management and AI. As digital transformation continues to accelerate across the life sciences, we are reconfirming our commitment to enable connected agentic laboratories with practical, scalable technology that helps teams work more efficiently, reduce costs, and accelerate scientific discovery.
